“Glass, an eternity of form, decoration by design, strength and fragility in shape”

I have been working in glass, in some way, shape or form, for 6 years. Originally I worked in the field of Stained Glass, initially leaded work and then copper foil pieces in the mode of Louis Comfort Tiffany and, after a period of study, achieved a City & Guilds qualification in Stained Glass Design. Sometime later I discovered kilnformed glass and this has been my passion for the last 4 years.

I have been fortunate enough to have been informally taught by a Zurich based, internationally renowned teacher, learning techniques in fusing, casting and flameworking. I continue to experiment using Bullseye Glass, if possible pushing the boundaries of the glass through experimentation and by the use of metal inclusions and other formulated and considered techniques. In conjunction with my colleague Sarah Sillibourne I have developed a number of techniques which are used as the stepping-stones to other ideas. Experimentation is the key to successful glassmaking and is something that I will strive for as long as I continue to learn.

Glass for me is a passion, something that can lead you astray, give you hope and equally give you periods of despair when the kiln is opened. I love the excitement of not knowing what the end result will be, the buzz of knowing that something has worked out right and the thrill of knowing that someone else likes what you do.
