Nick Amey started painting at an early age and is completely self-taught. His great passions are art, gardening and the countryside and naturally these interests provide the subjects for most of his paintings. The emotion he experiences from his passions is clearly evident in his work.

Nick paints mainly in oil or acrylic with subjects ranging from conventional landscapes to compositions. He enjoys bringing together quite separate elements into one picture to try and convey a particular mood or idea. Often his pieces show the influence of man on nature and the landscape and although there are rarely figures featured in his pictures, there is sometimes a feeling of people nearby or having just departed.
